Are you receiving a 'Real Aromatherapy' Treatment?

Updated: Mar 27

Over the course of my 33 year career which involved essential oils, I have been the recipient of hundreds of massage treatments many of which, were entitled an 'Aromatherapy Treatment'.

I don't particularly like the term 'Aromatherapy Treatment' but for the context of this blog post, I will use the term to illustrate what folks might see on a list of services provided at a spa or holistic wellness clinic. (at the bottom of this post I will provide a link as to why I prefer to call an 'Aromatherapy Treatment' an Essence Treatment or Aromachology.)

During the first 10 years of my professional career I would conduct a health questionnaire with my clients to ascertain if they had any medical conditions, allergies or aversions to a particular scent. I would then create a customized blend of essential oils in proportion to safety guidelines within an unscented cold pressed vegan oil such as; coconut, almond or grapeseed, commonly referred to as an 'aroma-therapeutic blend or synergy'. The blend would then be applied to the client's body using various forms of relaxation massage techniques.

Clients would indicate that the treatment was absolutely delightful and that the 'Aroma' was intoxicating. I always made a little extra of the synergistic blend and would send my client home with a small bottle of the mixture for their personal use at home. This is what I would call a real 'Aromatherapy Treatment'.

Over time my clients would ask. "Can I buy an extra bottle or two of that blend you created for me?" This led to an additional 23 years of essential oil custom blending for thousands of clients at my 3 retail locations and in addition to the development of several product lines used in spas and by various therapists in their private practice.

If you are a massage therapist or other type of 'holistic therapist' looking to incorporate essential oils in with the modalities that you presently offer, but don't know where to start. Give me a Shout, I'd be happy to provide consultation which will ultimately boost your bottom line and keep your customers coming back for more.

Hope you're having a Scentsational Day.
